How to Use a Reference Track in Logic Pro

Follow these steps
Import the Reference Audio
Drag a high-quality audio file (WAV or AIFF) directly into your Logic Pro workspace on a new audio track. Label this track 'Reference' so you don't confuse it with your own audio.
Bypass the Master Chain
Open the mixer and change the Output of your Reference track from 'Stereo Out' to 'No Output' or a dedicated 'Bus'. This prevents your mastering plugins from affecting the reference song.
Match the Volumes
Lower the volume of the reference track until it matches the perceived loudness of your current mix. Use the 'Solo' button to quickly toggle between your song and the professional track.
Compare Tonal Balance
Listen specifically to the low-end (kick/bass) and the high-end (cymbals/vocals). Make small adjustments to your individual tracks to bring your mix closer to the reference's tonal balance.
Common mistakes
- Forgetting to route the reference track directly to the output, causing it to be processed by your master chain.
