How to Transpose and Edit MIDI Notes in Logic Pro

This tutorial covers the essentials of moving and correcting MIDI notes within the Piano Roll. You will learn how to transpose entire melodies and fix timing issues with ease.
Follow these steps
Open the Piano Roll
Double-click any MIDI region in the Tracks area to open the Piano Roll editor at the bottom of the screen.
Move individual notes
Click and drag a note vertically to change its pitch, or horizontally to change its timing.
Transpose all notes
Click inside the Piano Roll and press Command-A to select all notes, then drag one note to move the entire sequence.
Copy and paste notes
Hold Option and drag a note to create an exact duplicate of it elsewhere in the grid.
Resize note length
Hover over the end of a note until the cursor changes, then drag to shorten or lengthen the note duration.
Common mistakes
- Moving notes off the grid without 'Snap' turned on, causing the performance to sound out of time.
- Accidentally transposing notes to a different key that doesn't match the project's scale.
