How to Record Vocals in Logic Pro

This guide helps you set up an audio track to capture a clean vocal performance. You will learn how to configure your hardware and manage the recording process effectively.
Follow these steps
Configure Audio Input
Go to Logic Pro Settings and select the Audio tab to ensure your interface is the selected Input Device. Create a new Audio Track and set the input to the channel where your mic is plugged in.
Set Input Levels
Click the 'I' (Input Monitoring) button on the track header to hear yourself. Sing at your loudest volume and adjust your interface gain until the meter peaks around -6dB.
Arm and Record
Click the 'R' (Record Enable) button so it flashes red. Move the playhead to where you want to start and press the 'R' key on your keyboard to begin recording.
Stop and Review
Press the Spacebar to stop recording. Click the 'R' button again to disarm the track so you don't accidentally record over your take.
Common mistakes
- Recording with the 'Input' level too high, causing red clipping in the meter.
- Forgetting to turn off software monitoring while using an interface with direct monitoring.
