How to Mix Vocals with Stock Logic Pro Plugins

Transform raw vocal recordings into polished, radio-ready tracks using only the powerful stock processing tools included in Logic Pro.

This tutorial shows you how to clean up, balance, and enhance vocal recordings using Logic's built-in tools. You will learn the standard signal chain to achieve a professional vocal sound without third-party software.

Follow these steps

  1. Clean with Channel EQ

Insert a Channel EQ and use a High Pass Filter to remove low-end rumble below 80-100Hz. This cleans up the bottom end of the vocal.

  2. Control dynamics

Add a Compressor to smooth out the volume peaks. Set a moderate attack and release to keep the vocal feeling natural yet controlled.

  3. Correction and tuning

Apply a subtle Pitch Correction plugin if needed to transparently pull notes into tune. Keep the 'Response' speed moderate to avoid a robotic effect.

  4. Create space with sends

Use a Send to a Bus containing Space Designer Reverb. Blending the reverb on a separate channel keeps the main vocal dry and impactful.

Common mistakes

  • Using too much reverb, which makes the vocal sound distant and 'washed out'.
  • Over-boosting high frequencies, leading to harsh 's' sounds called sibilance.
