How to Check LUFS in Logic Pro for Streaming

This guide helps you measure the perceived loudness of your track to meet streaming platform requirements. You will learn how to read the Loudness Meter to avoid unwanted volume normalization.
Follow these steps
Open the Loudness Meter
Go to the Stereo Out channel in your mixer and click an empty audio effect slot. Select 'Metering' and then choose the 'Loudness Meter' plugin.
Select the LUFS View
Set the meter to 'LUFS' (Loudness Units Full Scale) mode if it isn't already. Ensure you are looking at the 'Integrated' reading, which calculates the average loudness over time.
Play the Loudest Section
Play the loudest section of your song, such as the final chorus, from start to finish. Click 'Start' or 'Reset' on the meter to begin a fresh measurement of that section.
Read the Integrated Value
Observe the 'Integrated' number; for most streaming services, a target between -14 and -12 LUFS is standard. Adjust your final limiter gain until you reach this target.
Common mistakes
- Measuring peak levels instead of LUFS, which doesn't represent perceived loudness.
- Checking loudness on a quiet section of the song rather than the loudest part.
